Thoughts:

Losing It has been on my list for a long time. The premise reminded me of Grey’s Anatomy back in the good days so I was excited to see where this was going. When I saw that my library had it, I grabbed it and devoured it–despite the fact that I had a bazillion other books due that I still had to read.

When I find myself laughing just by reading the first page of a book, I know I am going to enjoy a book. Humour is really important to me and I have to say in the New Adult genre, I haven’t found a book where I actually thought the heroine was intentionally funny. Bliss was witty and real and I just really liked her character. Garrick was also super cute too and the whole scene where they met had swooning and laughing all at once.

That was what I really liked about this book, it was a quick, super light and funny read. The characters were entertaining, witty and real (I was going to type realistic but I don’t think I could see this happening in real life on a daily basis–the characters were a little larger than life at times I think is the best way to describe it–but I could see it happening). My only real peeve is that I didn’t really see more to the relationship between Bliss and Garrick. I could see that they had stuff in common, but I think if it was elaborated a bit more, I would more readily agree that they are a good pair. I just felt like their relationship was more physical than anything (though the epilogue helped me see it a bit more I will admit).

It was the opposite with Faking It. I actually saw the relationship develop between Cade and Max despite the quickness of it all. I could easily see how they worked together and I really appreciated that. Faking It wasn’t as humorous as Losing It as it was a touch more darker in both plot and characters, but it still was witty and had some fun moments. I was actually surprised that I liked Cade in this book because he wasn’t my favourite character in Losing It. But I warmed up to him as the book progressed and started to cheer him on. I also really liked Max; I didn’t find her annoying and I understood her character and thought process. Overall, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as Losing It, but I read it in a day and liked every moment of it.

I’m excited for the novella, Keeping Her, because I am dying to know more about Bliss and Garrick. I’m also looking forward to seeing what happens in Finding It and where it will go.

UPDATED (Feb 24/14): With the small dose of Kelsey we get in Losing It I was looking forward to this book; especially the traveling bit.

Like Faking It, this book has a serious tone to it which is a bit of a shame because I really enjoyed the humor and lightheartedness of Losing It and the rest of the series is slightly disappointing because of this. But, Ms. Carmack does a great job creating characters and I’ve enjoyed reading their stories.

Kelsey is no exception to this. Her story was interesting albeit stereotypical. Looking back at the story I wish that a particular piece of her past wasn’t present because I feel it made the story seem like it’s trying too hard. The story would have been just as enjoyable without it because Hunt and Kelsey’s story is everything I like in a romance and her search to find herself after college is enough on its own. Perhaps I only feel that way because I am also graduating from university this year and am in that weird lull of trying to figure out what to do with my life 😛 but I did like reading it.

UPDATED (March 9/14): I’m glad I didn’t read Seeking Her until after though because I like learning bits about Hunt as we went. I think it’s important that people realize that this novella, Seeking Her, is a prequel in the sense that it tells the reader what Hunt has been doing before he meets Kelsey. If you read even the synopsis beforehand you will be reading a major spoiler so DON’T DO THAT! Read Seeking Her after you read Finding It. As for the novella itself. It was nice but didn’t do too much for me in the grand scheme of things.

Conclusion:

These books had everything I liked in a New Adult read: romance, great characters and a splash of humour (more so in Losing It than Faking It). Definitely a must read for those who like more light-hearted New Adult reads!

Synopsis for Losing It (from Goodreads):
Virginity.

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible– a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe. And as if that weren’t embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She’d left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.
