The Perfect Match: Spring Edition 2015

Introducing my new Seasonal Feature:theprefectmatch

Spring 2015 Edition

The Perfect Match: A seasonal feature where I play matchmaker but with books! What happens when you take Book A and combine it with Book B?  The answer is Book C!

For as long as I can remember, I have always hybridized celebrities. As in, you take celebrity A + celebrity B and you get celebrity C. Recently, I’ve discovered that I do this with books as well! So why not have some fun and do a post for my blog? I opted to do a seasonal post for this because I do enough features on a monthly basis plus, creating these book love-children is a hard thing to do!

And just for fun, I thought I would include a celebrity pick as well 😉 Enjoy!

Why This Match?

Princess of Thorns features a kick-ass heroine who meets a prince she never expects to get along with–just like Katsa in Graceling. Plus the Grimm’s fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty is the underlying concept of Stacey Jay’s Princess of Thorns.

Why This Match?

While For the Darkness Shows the Stars is more futuristic, it shares a lot of common elements with The Winner’s Curse like the high-society heroine’s close relationship with a servant and her desire to fix the world around her. However, the relationship of Arin and Kestrel reminds me a lot more of June and Day’s in Legend where they find themselves on opposing sides of war. Plus, Kestrel is such an intelligent heroine like June.

naspring15 Why This Match?

Mayhem has two popular New Adult concepts: an up-and-coming rock band (like Muse) plus the tutor falling for the player student (like After Math). Together, it’s perfect harmony!

  • Sadly, I haven’t read most of these. Actually I haven’t read any of them but Gracling. So I can’t give an opinion. But it’s still a clever idea, Lauren (you finally added your name on your “About” page, or has it always been there?)!

  • Oh, this is so fantastic! Of course Princess of Thorns would have Sleeping Beauty in it. 🙂 I totally see the comparison to Graceling as well.

I’ve also read For Darkness Shows the Stars, Legend and The Winner’s Crime, and your match makes complete sense. I never would’ve thought to compare TWC to FDSTS until you mentioned it.
