Monthly Inventory: April 2017

April 2017

For most of April, I’ll admit that I felt like I was running around with my head cut off. Adjusting to a life of shift work has been challenging to say the least (you can read about my voyage into the world of “adulting” here). I’m hoping things will mellow out in May and I can get that work-life-balance back.

As I was composing April’s inventory, I for sure thought my numbers were going to be pretty dismal. Honestly, this entire month I felt overwhelmed with all the reading I had to do. I felt like I wasn’t making any progress with my challenges or with my TBR. But as I gathered all my numbers for the month, I realized I actually had a better month than I anticipated! That feeling of accomplishment is why I brought this feature back as a monthly one and it really lifted up my spirits for the month of May.

Total for April 2017: 18 Books Read + 1 Novellas Read

Last April: 13 Books Read + 0 Novellas Read

DNF’d: 1 Books

Standout Reads (★★★★★)

Havoc was easily one of my most anticipated sequels of this year (possibly EVER) and I was stoked to finally get my hands on this novel. And it did not disappoint!
Ninja Girl was just a great read. It has such a positive message about staying true to yourself while still maintaining such a fun atmosphere. Devoured this entirely in one sitting.

Biggest Let Down (★★★)

I’m a huge Claudia Gray fan and I was super excited to get an ARC copy of Defy the Stars. And while I enjoyed it,
it just didn’t have that spark of excitement that I wanted it to. That being said, the foundations are all there and I’m hoping the sequel can build upon that.

kobostats

I thought it would be fun to keep track of my reading progress on my Kobo every month (and compare it to last year’s numbers). While I do own a Kindle now, I mostly use my Kobo for everyday reading. As per my #ShelfLove Challenge, I really want to increase the Total % of Library Complete by the end of the year.

As of:

April 30, 2017

January 31, 2017*

Total % of Library Complete

21%

20%

Total # of Books Finished

548

531

Total # of Reading Hours

2459

2150

*Normally I do a year to date comparison but I couldn’t find my stats for April 2016 🙁

In February, I brought back my Tackling the TBR feature and announced my plan to get my Goodreads TBR down to 500 books. Here are my current standings:

  • Current TBR Shelf: 612 books
    • Initial Number in February: 1205 books

So long as I keep an eye on what books I add every month, I should be able to read 100 books by the end of the year and get that number closer to 500.
