May 2017
While I’m reading more books than I anticipated, I still feel constantly behind. I think it is because I’m not reading all the books I should be reading. I’ve been a little bogged down by impulsive library borrowing and taking on more review opportunities than I should. But I’m hoping to get back on track come July thanks to the Summer TBR Wipeout and some strict rules about borrowing and requesting.
Total for May 2017: 16 Books Read + 6 Novellas Read
Last May: 18 Books Read + 1 Novellas Read
DNF’d: 3 Books
Standout Read (★★★★★)
While I hate the BFF in love with the other BFF love triangle trope, I do love a BFFs falling in love story. (Did I confuse you yet?) Anyways, this was a super sweet romance and one that developed perfectly. Plus, it was my only 5 star read of the month!
Biggest Let Down (★★)
I ended up DNFing this book at the 75% mark. Yeah, I couldn’t even finish the last quarter of the book. That’s how much I detested it by the end. Look out for my rant filled review in the next few months.
I thought it would be fun to keep track of my reading progress on my Kobo every month (and compare it to last year’s numbers). While I do own a Kindle now, I mostly use my Kobo for everyday reading. As per my #ShelfLove Challenge, I really want to increase the Total % of Library Complete by the end of the year.

In February, I brought back my Tackling the TBR feature and announced my plan to get my Goodreads TBR down to 500 books. Here are my current standings:
- Current TBR Shelf: 611 books
- TBR Shelf at end of April : 612 books
- Initial Number in February: 1205 books
Here’s to a better June!
Statistically speaking, I’m doing ok with my reading this year. I’m reading lots of books (listening to audiobooks has definitely helped) but I always feel like I’m just getting by. (I’ve marked The Opportunist and The Iron Wyrm Affair as my challenge picks for the last 2 months and still haven’t read them). I’m really hoping I can get a better balance for the month of June. Like I said in my intro, I have a plan for July but I need to fix up my current system.
The Plan for June:
- No more requests/ARCs/blog tours
- Stop impulsively checking out library books
- Read more outside!
I’m hoping that these three guidelines can keep me focused on the task at hand and finally tackle some of my TBR!
