Synopsis for Claim (from Goodreads):

Damon Pierce has a dangerous reputation at Violent Delights.
As for the submissive women he plays with? They get one night only.
Any more would put them at risk.

He has no interest in emotional entanglements.
Especially not with Sophia Morelli.
She’s too brazen. Too beautiful.
And the sister of one of his closest friends.

Still, he finds himself drawn to her beckoning sensuality, her mouthy attitude, and the compelling innocence he discovers under her bold facade. Despite how much he may wish for it, nothing can change the past…or the very real danger he poses to her right now.

thoughts

Why I Picked it Up / My Expectations:

This is the final series for me in the Midnight Dynasty Series and what a ride! It’s been a lot of fun to read all these interconnected series and introduce myself to some new authors.

Sophia has been present in a lot of the last few Morelli books so I was curious to learn more about her and see who would be her partner to tame her free spirit.

The Concept – Midnight Dynasty:

The Midnight Dynasty Universe is a collection of books (series and standalones) by different authors but feature the characters from a collective world. They’re intended to be read in any order because each series focuses on two characters at a time but there are chronological events and character interactions throughout the universe.

The Plot:

I enjoyed the mystery part of the dramatic plotline. It was kept the reader on their toes trying to solve it. I can also appreciate the high stakes of that situation amplifies the connection between Damien and Sophia.

Like many books in the Midnight Dynasty Universe, I wonder why this story needed to be a trilogy rather than a duology. I think their story would be much stronger if it ended with the resolution of the mystery in Defy (#2).

The Characters:

I’m going to chock up some of the character discrepancies to these two not really understanding how to be in a romantic relationship. Like Damon’s sudden switch to full Dom mode on Sophia when he repeatedly stated he didn’t want that with his previous submissive. I just struggled getting a read on him in particular throughout the series.

The Romance:

I will admit that I was hooked by the initial chemistry these two had. I could see the draw and the tension between them and it’s heightened by the forbidden element (BFF’s sister). However, things moved way to fast for me and I honestly felt like they didn’t interact enough to be claiming to love each other as completely as quickly they do. It did get a little better by the end of the series as their relationship is tested by the various plots and they start to verbally communicate.

Midnight Dynasty’s Reading Order:

Here is my suggested order for this universe based on my own reading experience:

Series Rating: 3/5

Claim 3/5 | Defy 3/5 | Own 3/5

overall

I just struggled with the pacing of the romance and plot in this one. I enjoyed the premise but wanted a little more from the execution.

Read if You Like: BDSM erotica, romantic suspense
Avoid if You: dislike BDSM
