Synopsis for Black Ties & White Lies (from Goodreads):
Life is never black and white.
One minute you’re a struggling graphic designer in LA that’s finally coming to terms with being single forever, and the next you’re flying to New York in a private jet to get engaged to your ex-boyfriend’s older brother.
At least…that’s what everyone thinks. Forced to clean up his playboy image in order to protect his company, Beckham Sinclair, the city’s most eligible billionaire bachelor, wants me to be his fake fiancée and personal assistant.
Now I’m spending every spare second with a man I thought I’d never see again.
My freshly mended heart has barely recovered from the first time a Sinclair broke it. But with each passing day, Beck’s dirty mouth and lingering stares make me question his motives—and mine.
As the line blurs between real and pretend, only one thing is certain: there are secrets hiding in this city full of black ties and white lies.

Why I Picked it Up / My Expectations:
I think this series was recommended to me by Kindle Unlimited based on the other books I had read in the program. And I totally see why: fake girlfriend, forbidden romance and an interesting plot line. So when I was on my winter vacation, I dove into this series with a gusto!
The Plot:
All of these stories share the common trope of “fake relationship” but they each have their own flare based on their heroines and heroes. I liked that each of the heroines had their “find themselves” story thrown in there as well.
The Characters:
I binged all three books close together but I never felt like I was rereading the same cookie cutter characters. Every pair had their own personalities and quirks and I appreciated that.
The Romance:
There’s no denying all these couples have fantastic chemistry from the start. The tension and banter between Margo and Beck (Black Ties and White Lies #1) was great. But I felt like all the relationships were just missing a depth to them. That was the specific case in Pretty Rings and Broken Things (#2) for me where I felt like the past rivalry could have been expanded upon.
Series Rating: 4/5
Black Ties & White Lies 4/5 | Pretty Rings and Broken Things 3/5 | Bright Lights and Summer Nights 4/5
I wanted a read that I could easily get into and this fit the bill. While I think some things could be tweaked to make the overall experience better (like expanding the romantic connections besides physical attraction), they were great quick reads filled with banter and heat.
