Why I Picked it Up / My Expectations:
I needed a new audiobook series to binge and this one was readily available from my library. I’ve enjoyed Marissa Meyer’s books in the past and really loved the concept of superheroes in this novel.
The Concept / The World:
Who doesn’t enjoy a battle between good and evil? I really appreciate the dichotomy of the world; good vs evil; helping vs dooming. Who are the real heroes and who are the real villains when both think that are doing the best to save the world. This reads like a great comic and I’m a fan!
The Plot:
I always found this plot to be engaging. Like any good comic, there are secrets and mysteries from that past that want to be solved. I found those to be very engaging and the drove the story for me. While I had solved some twists, others completely caught me off guard.
I also loved the action. Tons of great battles, lots of “will they get caught?!” moments as well.
I just felt like very thing was well balanced when it came to the development of the story.
The Characters:
Both Adrian and Nova are great leads. I loved watching them grow and evolve as characters throughout the series. Like any good hero, they have good intentions and harts but they have their flaws too which makes them great leads to follow.
I do think the story would have been stronger had we not known the identity of the Sentinel but at the same time, I understand why it was an open secret and how it contributed to that character’s growth.
While Adrian and Nova are the main focus throughout, I loved getting to know some of the side characters. I think that always makes a series more engaging when you find other characters to root for. It gives you this fuller world to explore.
The Romance:
Oh talk about slow burn perfection! I just thought this romance was so cute and also fulfilling as they are the perfect match for each other, even if they don’t quite know it. It never distracted and only added to the overall story.
My Audiobook Experience:
I am so glad I listened to these as audiobooks.! They were so engaging and enjoyable to listen to. It was like listening to a Marvel story come to life.
Series Rating: 4/5
Renegades 4/5 | Archenemies 4/5 | Supernova 5/5
I think fans of superheroes and comics will enjoy this world and the characters. It was a great series to binge listen to!
