DNF Series Review: Hitched by G K Deosa

DNF December Review Blitz — Day #5: I’m sharing my thoughts on some book series that I have marked as incomplete as I have never finished the first novel in the series. Find out why these weren’t for me:

DNF Series Review: Hitched by G K Deosa

booksynopsis

Synopsis for The Bachelorette (from Goodreads):

One innocent human girl. Twenty-five supernatural bachelors. Six weeks to choose the one.

When struggling actress Kimmie-Jayne Starr discovers she’s snagged the starring role on the next huge reality TV show, Hitched, she thinks all her dreams have finally come true. But as soon as she lands on the beautiful island of Mystic Cove, something feels wrong.

Sure, the twenty-five bachelors are heart-stoppingly gorgeous, but she’s certain they’re all hiding something—something supernatural. As she gets to know the guys, protecting her heart proves impossible when she finds herself irresistibly drawn to more than just one.

As a string of strange accidents on set grow deadlier, Kimmie realizes there’s much more to this dating show than she ever could’ve imagined. If she can’t figure out who’s behind these incidents, she’ll end up risking more than just her heart.

thoughts

Disclaimer: I stopped reading The Bachelorette at 36% (start of Chapter 11) and have opted not to pick up the sequels. Find out why below…

Why I Picked it Up / My Expectations:

Over the years, I’ve watched The Bachelor and The Bachelorette reality TV series. I don’t really watch them now but they were definitely a guilty pleasure watch for me. And I’ve read a few books, like The Vampire Royals and The Selection that take the premise of the show (multiple interests for one suitor) for their plotlines. So I think that’s why the Hitched Series showed up as a recommended read for me on Amazon when I was subscribed to Kindle Unlimited.

What I Liked:

–The “Produced” Element of the Show–

I binge watched the drama Unreal earlier this year which focuses on the production and show runner teams behind a reality TV like The Bachelor and how far they will go to produce good TV. So here, I appreciated that “production” element and how they are setting up Kimmie to make good TV.

What I Didn’t Like:

–Kimmie–

Look, I don’t need my heroines to be geniuses but Kimmie’s ignorance to the situation and just how life goes in general made her come across as dim. By the time I was a third of the way through I was bored of listening to her mundane narration of life and her job at the chicken restaurant. Which leads me to…

–It Couldn’t Keep My Attention–

I could tell that things were brewing but I mean you already know that the bachelors are supernatural from the synopsis so waiting for Kimmie to figure it out was boring. And we were just starting to meet the suitors and they all seemed to blend together so I just wasn’t excited to pick up the book to read it. So when it started to feel like a chore, that’s when I knew to say we were done.

Will I Finish It?

I don’t think so.

My Rating: DNF

The Bachelorette DNF | The Top Ten N/A | The Final Five  N/A | The One N/A

overall

This one just didn’t pique my interest with its lack of depth and excitement.

Read if You Like: the Bachelor TV Show
Avoid if You: dislike immature heroines
