ENDS: A new beast called the kucedra attacks the Nest, poisoning humans and the Avicen. Tanith decides that she can bind this creature to her like Echo did to the Firebird. Echo leaves to find a cure to the disease and is joined by Ronan and Caius. They get tested in a cave where Echo’s fears are her mother and embracing the darkness of the Firebirds powers. Caius admits he loves Echo but Ronan is still in the picture and he notes their close relationship. Jasper (who was poisoned at the end of the previous novel), is saved by the warlock Quinn whom he had a brief affair with when he was a teen. Quinn’s arrival and flirting puts a strain on Jasper and Dorian’s budding relationship. The group decides to send Ivy into Tanith’s castle to start the rebellion with those military troops still loyal to Caius. Ivy meets Helios and they escape once she gets a page detailing the cure for the mysterious disease. She nearly doesn’t though because Quinn has betrayed them, revealing he was offered Jasper in order to capture the rest of the group. But Jasper binds his powers with an iron neck collar. Echo and company return with the red flowers needed to save everyone. But Tanith has started the sacrifice to bind the kucedra and calls to Caius. She captures Caius and takes him away. Echo briefly sees a flashback to Tanith’s betrayal to get the throne. In order to defeat Tanith, Echo released her magic into Avalon creating a barrier to keep Tanith away. The novel ends with Echo being told she needs to get steal Caisus back.

ENDS: Nina learns that her father was looking into Tristan’s dad’s scam and that he was murdered because of it. Tristan, in an attempt to repair the damage his family caused, seeks Nina out but falls in love with her instead. ENDS: Ash and Puck arrive to save Keirran, Ethan and Mackenzie but the Forgotten have fled (but Keirran has promised the Queen that he will return when she calls as he is sympathetic to their fight). Keirran promises that they will be together though she has to leave. Ethan and Kenzie kiss, talking about how much trouble they are going to be in when they return.

ENDS: John frees Nine, but Sam gets caught in the cave trying to find his father. John can’t meet with Six because Sam had the location rendezvous in his pocket. Six meets Seven and Ten and they go somewhere else anyways.

ENDS: 6 meets Sara in the prison and learns that Sara didn’t sell John out. She also learns that Setrákus Ra can transform himself into another person. He does this when the rest of the group arrives but Ella develops her telepathy legacy so she knows that it’s really 6 but Setrákus Ra as 6 is stuck in stone. Marina heals Ella, Sara and 8 (who she kissed earlier before the battle). The group fails to defeat Setrákus Ra even when they get their blocked Legacies back but decide that they will stay together and regroup to come back stronger. However, the group still hasn’t found Sam Yet

ENDS: The group splits: Ella, 4 Malcolm and Sam stay in Chicago while 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 go to Florida to get 5s chest. Ella brings 4 into a vision where he learns that she is the heir to the Mogs; they are attacked by Mogs. Malcolm is seriously injured but 4 develops a healing legacy; 4 meets Adam when he is leaving with the groups chest to flee Chicago. Meanwhile in Florida it is revealed that 5 is actually working with the Mogs and kills 8 (accidently) when 8 saves 9 from 5’s attack. Upset, 7 develops freezing powers and she, 5 and 9 turn invisible.

ENDS: The entire group arrives in NYC, including Ella. 9 breaks Setrákus Ra’s staff so that he changes from his human form to his true self and this causes the people of Earth to panic as the invasion begins. Ella learns that she is able to harm Setrákus Ra without hurting herself if she is the one inflicting the pain, but doesn’t tell the others. 4 is just about to deliver the final blow to Setrákus Ra when 5 knocks him out of the way explaining the charm Setrákus Ra has on Ella. So Setrákus Ra escapes. Sam and 4 encounter a piken but it is Sam who uses telekinesis to knock the piken back.

ENDS: The Legacies try to get the humans with legacies to join their cause. Sarah, Mark and Six attempt to hijack Setrákus Ra’s ship but Six accidently hits Sarah as she impales him with a rod. Sarah tells Four she loves him via satellite phone before she dies.
