Thoughts:

Ever missed that one key line of a plot summary that would probably be the deciding factor on whether or not you read the book? Well, that’s what I did here. It was just that last line that probably would have made the bells go ringing in my head and clue in to what this series is about: a love triangle (hence, the title “Torn”).

Love triangles are not my thing. They drive me up the wall and become major turn-offs for me when I read a book. I’m all for a little tension with a possible interested party, but when a girl can’t make up her mind about two guys she “loves”, that’s when I lose interest. If I had known that the first book, Torn, was essentially a story about a girl leading two guys on because she can’t choose, I would have passed right away and never picked up the book. I guess the high level ratings on Goodreads convinced me otherwise (I seriously don’t know how this book has such a high rating on Goodreads).

If I take away the love triangle, I still don’t see the love for this book. I didn’t particularly enjoy the characters (they just seemed like stereotypes to me played at the highest level). There are a few hot scenes but that doesn’t make a book. There is a bit of suspense and obvious drama but nothing I haven’t really read before.

Torn sees the conclusion of the love triangle while the second book, Twisted sees how the decision played out. I’m not really sure why Twisted was needed other than the fact that Torn ends really abruptly. Seeing that particular plot conclude is probably why I continued reading the sequel. I would have been satisfied if Torn was another 50 pages and had an epilogue with how the series concluded–but I guess for all those people who loved it, the sequel is “great”.

Conclusion:

If you like love triangles involving hot, tattooed & pierced rockers you will love this book. If you can’t stand love triangles AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Rating: 2/5

Synopsis for Torn (from Goodreads):
Chloe hasn’t had the best life. With a mother who is gone more often than not, she has had to raise herself. After graduating high school, she leaves to start a new life away at West Virginia University with her best friends Amber and Logan, determined to leave her demons in the past.

On her first day, she meets a stranger who takes her breath away at first sight. Until she met Drake, no one had ever sparked her interest. Now this tattooed and pierced bad boy is all she can think about, no matter how hard she fights it.

Falling for Drake was never part of her plans, but when it happens, things seem to do anything but fall into place.

Dealing with a tragic past, Drake has never cared about anyone else but himself and his band. But when Chloe takes the empty seat next to him in class, things start to change. Instantly drawn to her, he begins to wonder if one girl can take a cold hearted womanizer and change every part of him?

Long hidden feelings are revealed and friendships tested to the brink.
