Read-a-thon: Make Me Read It (August 2017) Vote!

-are getting married! (3)

Better late than never! I was so worried this wasn’t going to happen this year but I’m SO HAPPY that it is! This is one of the only readathons I take part in annually just because it is so much fun! I am SUPER excited that this readathon is back for another year!

Last year, my goal was to read the Top 4 of 10 books and I definitely did that! I eventually went on to read all the books I had selected by the end of 2016 as well.

This one is hosted by Val @ The Innocent Smiley and Ely @ Tea and Titles.

The Challenge Details:

  • When is it? August 6th until August 13th, 2017
  • Tag? #MakeMeRead
  • How does it work? Make a list of books you want to read and then have your friends vote! You will then read the books in order of highest to lowest votes.
  • My Goal: Read 4 of the below books!
  • Why I need your help? I need your help voting for what books I should read!

The Selections:

For the last two years, I’ve always picked items from my TBR jar (aka books I own) for my candidates. Two reasons for this: 1) I didn’t have to depend on the library to have the books when I needed them and 2) I didn’t read my “owned” books enough. This year, according to my mid-year reading challenge recap, I’m doing a great job reading those books I own (yay!).

So this year, I’m changing it up a bit. I’ve still included some TBR jar items (I still have an August #Shelflove goal) but I’ve also thrown in some sequels I’ve been neglecting. In fact, I’ve gone 50:50!

Here are the books:

This Is So Not Happening (He's So/She's So, #3) The Savage Blue (The Vicious Deep #2) Shadows in the Silence (Angelfire, #3) Phoenix (Black City, #2) Across a Star-Swept Sea (For Darkness Shows the Stars, #2)

Trust in Me (Wait for You, #1.5) Hitched: Volume One (Imperfect Love, #1) Derailed (Clayton Falls, #1) The Bet (The Bet, #1) Caught Up in Us (Caught Up in Love, #1)

The Vote:

Even if you have never heard of some of these books, please vote! Pick your fave cover or title!

Poll has Ended! Thank you to everyone who voted! Here are the results:

If you are doing this challenge, leave a link to your post and I will gladly vote for your picks!

Thank you in advance for you vote! I really appreciate it!

Read-a-thon: Make Me Read It (July 2016) VOTE!

-are getting married! (3)

I am SUPER excited that this readathon is back for another year! Last year, I participated and managed to read 6 of the 10 books I had picked (and my goal was to read 5 so WOOT!).

This one is hosted by Val @ The Innocent Smiley and Ely @ Tea and Titles.

  • When is it? July 9th until July 16th, 2016
  • Tag? #MakeMeRead
  • How does it work? Make a list of books you want to read and then have your friends vote! You will then read the books in order of highest to lowest votes.
  • My Goal: Read 4 of the below books!
  • Why I need your help? I need your help voting for what books I should read!

While the readathon isn’t at the most ideal time of year for me (last week of classes and moving back home!), I still want to make a solid effort with this challenge. I’m hoping for 4 books total which seems doable. These books are all books I have purchased over the years so it eliminates the need for me to make sure I get these books from the library AND contributes to my Rock My TBR challenge!

Here are the books I randomly selected from my TBR jar:

The Girl with the Iron Touch (Steampunk Chronicles, #3) To Win Her Love (Players, #1) Air Awakens (Air Awakens, #1) Kaleidoscope Hearts (Hearts, #1)

Finding Us (Finding, #1) Slade (Walk of Shame, #1) What's Yours Is Mine (Vista del Mar #1) A Beautiful Idea (Beautiful, #1) Ransom (Ransom, #1)

You may have never heard of some of these books but I ask that you please vote anyway! Just vote for your favourite cover 😉

Note: You can vote for multiple books!

If you are doing this challenge, leave a link to your post and I will gladly vote for your picks!

Thank you in advance for you vote! I really appreciate it!

Readathon: Bout of Books 16

Bout of Books
Bout of Books 16: The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 9th and runs through Sunday, May 15th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure.

I decided to join Bout of Books on a whim this year. In the last 3 years, I’ve seen many blogger participate but for some reason or another, I never get the chance to sign-up.
While this year, the week isn’t super ideal, I do have some free time and my classes end earlier than in the previous term so I should be able to get in some solid reading time over the next few days.

My Goals:

I do have a few goals I want to accomplish over the next 7 days:
  • Read The Mirror King by Jodi Meadows
  • Read The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutoski
  • Start the Incarnate Series by Jodi Meadows
    • Bonus if I finish it!
  • Read one TBR item from my Rock My TBR Challenge
Anything else would just be icing on the cake at this point 😉
This will be the only blog post about the readathon I make. I will be using Twitter for the rest of the week to update my progress so make sure you are following me @SERIESousbooks !

Are you joining Bout of Books 16? Let me know!

Read-a-thon: Excuse to Read Wrapup

  • What is it? The Excuse to Read Readathon
  • When is it? July 28th (12am) until August 3rd (11:59pm)
  • Tag? #ExcuseToRead
  • How does it work? Read as many books as you want!
  • My Goal: Read 7 books!

When I first got Twitter, I knew I wanted to participate in a readathon. They seem like a lot of fun and with summer winding down for me (school’s only a month away now!), I knew it was a now or never kind of deal. I first found the Make Me Read it Readathon first and had decided to do it when I found this one as well. The timing between the two was perfect (one day separated them) so I figured, why not?

This one was more flexible in what you got to read, so I opted to just select the books I already had out from the library plus an ARC from Netgalley. Because we had a long weekend in Canada during the readathon time frame, I opted to read 7 books:

Loving Dallas (Neon Dreams, #2) Forbidden When You're Back (Rosemary Beach, #12) Mechanica Mai Tai'd Up (Cocktail, #4) Broken Juliet (Starcrossed, #2) The Program (The Program, #1)

And while having a long weekend was helpful, what wasn’t so helpful was ordering and receiving my brand new sewing machine to finish my t-shirt quilt. BUT, I did manage to accomplish my goal, even if it wasn’t with the books I had set out to do it with.

Here’s what I actually ended up reading:

Loving Dallas (Neon Dreams, #2) Vengeance Road Forbidden When You're Back (Rosemary Beach, #12) Mechanica Mai Tai'd Up (Cocktail, #4) Last Call (Cocktail, #4.5)

So here are my Wrap-up Stats:

Favourite Cover:

Vengeance Road

I actually picked up this book because I couldn’t resist the cover any longer!

Fun Find (book you’re most glad you picked up)

Vengeance Road

I loved this book and I’m so glad I decided to pick it up albeit impulsively!

Author Love (author you’re definitely going to read more of)

Forbidden

I was so scared to pick up this book but I absolutely loved it! I really want to read more of Tabitha Suzuma’s work in the future!

Favourite Quotes Read

“My family is me. They are my life. Without them I walk this planet alone.” ~Forbidden

“I’ll be more bad than good, more revenge than forgiveness” ~Vengeance Road

“Gold makes monsters of men” ~Vengeance Road

Old Geezer (book you’ve been meaning to read the longest)

Forbidden

Goodreads tells me that I’ve wanted to read this book since January 2015 but I know that I thought about reading this book 3 years ago and just couldn’t bring up the courage to do so.

Reading Stats:

  • I finished 1 series (Cocktail)
  • I read the next books for 2 series (Rosemary Beach; Neon Lights)
  • Read 2 ARCs (Vengeance Road; Mechanica)
  • Read 3 standalone (Vengeance Road; Mechanica, Forbidden)
  • Finished 5 reviews for my blog! (Vengeance Road; Mechanica, Forbidden, Neon Lights, Cocktail)

All in all, I feel like it was a good readathon. I definitely could have dedicated more time to reading but I’m really happy with my end results!

Anyone else do this readathon or another? How’d you do?

Read-a-thon: Make Me Read It (July 2015) VOTE!

I originally heard about this readathon on iloveheartlandx @ bookloversblog, though it is hosted by Val @ The Innocent Smiley and Ely @ A Book So Fathomless. I’ve never done a readathon before but this one coincided perfectly with my library hold hiatus (basically I don’t take out any library books for a two week period so I can concentrate on books I have purchased). And I also recently joined Twitter (late to the party, I know) so I really wanted to try this more interactive challenge!

  • When is it? July 20th (8am) until July 27th (12am)
  • Tag? #MakeMeRead
  • How does it work? Make a list of books you want to read and then have your friends vote! You will then read the books in order of highest to lowest votes.
  • My Goal: Read 5 of the below books!
  • Why I need your help? I need your help voting for what books I should read!

Here are the books I randomly selected from my TBR jar:

Before You (Sex on the Beach) Love, Rosie In Harmony (Fenbrook Academy, #2) Near and Far (Lost and Found, #2) Lady Thief (Scarlet, #2)

By Referral Only (Whitman University, #2) Torrent (Condemned, #1) Silent No More (Silent, #1) In a Heartbeat (Heartbeat, #1) The Mad Tatter

You may have never heard of some of these books but I ask that you please vote anyway! Just vote for your favourite cover 😉

RESULTS (In Reading Order):

Love, Rosie Lady Thief (Scarlet, #2) Near and Far (Lost and Found, #2) The Mad Tatter Before You (Sex on the Beach) Torrent (Condemned, #1) Silent No More (Silent, #1) In Harmony (Fenbrook Academy, #2) In a Heartbeat (Heartbeat, #1) By Referral Only (Whitman University, #2)
