The Perfect Match: Summer 2016

Summer 2016 Edition

The Perfect Match: A seasonal feature where I play matchmaker but with books! What happens when you take Book A and combine it with Book B? The answer is Book C!

It feels like forever since I last did this! And if my phone note is any indication, it’s been a long time since I added any new hybrids to my list…oops!

Anywho, this month I’m going with a dystopian theme. Like this feature, it has been awhile since I’ve read a dystopian novel so I wanted to revist some from the past year.

Why This Match?

The recycling of souls and the uniqueness of the new soul of Nadia in Soulless is very similar to the idea of reincarnation in Incarnate. Both girls struggle with finding their place in a world where they are not accepted. It’s a similar for Allison in The Immortal Rules. But the adventure/journey aspect of The Immortal Rules is very similar to the plot-line of Soulless.

Why This Match?

In The Program, a suicide epidemic is running rampant through society–much like the idea that love is a disease in Delirium. In order to stop it, both novels set up programs to eradicate and manage the epidemics in their societies. Matched may seem like an odd choice but its rigid society structure and many technological advances reminded me of the circumstances present in The Program.

Why This Match?

The Darkest Minds focuses on teens with crazy abilities that adults just don’t understand. So, the kids are shipped off to camps just like in Uninvited and in The Summoning where they struggle to find their independence and be true to themselves. Of course, as some romance, rebels and action and you’ve got 3 books with the same foundations.

Keeping with the dystopian theme, I picked Kaya Scodelario (Theresa from The Maze Runner Movies) to be the source of my hybrid this season.

  • That last one…. that celebrity hybrid is CRAZY I can’t stop staring at it now ahah. And I totally agree with your choices for The Program 🙂

  • Omggg Matched + Delirium = The Program IS INSANELY TRUE. I AGREE WITH THAT SO MUCH. Although I mean, I haven’t read Delirium, but I’ve read the other two, so I think it works haha. The the celebrity hybrid was eerily spot on! XD

Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

    • You’ve essentially read Delirium if you’ve read The Program in my humble opinion. Very, very similar stories!

  • I’ve only read The Program, and The Summoning out of the books you mentioned, but most of the others are on my TBR. I am keen to see how they are similar to the ones I’ve read now! I especially like the look of Soulless, and almost everyone I know has read and loved The Darkest Minds, so those are probably my top two priorities.

This feature is super awesome – it’s interesting to see what books have similar themes and storylines!

Also, that celebrity hybrid is so eerily accurate, haha XD

    • I was really surprised by Soulless and I’m super excited that the sequel is coming out next month! I hope you get a chance to read it soon!
      Thanks for the compliment 🙂
It’s SO freaky right! Crazy thing is I had someone else picked instead of Willa but then it just hit me when I was google searching that she would be perfect!
