booksynopsis

Synopsis for Misfit (from Goodreads):

Finding out your mom is marrying some rich guy you’ve never met is enough to make any eighteen-year-old’s head spin. And for RJ Shaw, it gets worse: he’s being sent to Sandover Prep for senior year. If there’s one place a misfit hacker like RJ doesn’t belong, it’s an ivy-covered all-boys boarding school for rich delinquents. There’s no point trying to get along with anyone. That is, until he meets Sloane Tresscott in the woods on the outskirts of campus. Gorgeous and sharp-tongued, Sloane is pure temptation.

Except Sloane is the one girl he’s forbidden from touching.

The headmaster’s daughter.

Good thing RJ doesn’t believe in rules. Sure, Sloane insists she’s swearing off boys this year, but he wants her bad, and he’s going to win her over if it kills him—unless her ex-boyfriend, the ruling king of Sandover, kills him first. Luckily, RJ’s unwittingly made some friends. His new stepbrother Fenn, a pretty boy with a self-destructive streak. Lawson, self-proclaimed agent of chaos. And Silas, the All-American good guy who can’t actually be as nice as he seems.

If RJ wants to survive prep school and win Sloane’s heart, he’ll need to figure out a way to use all the secrets hidden in the walls of Sandover.

thoughts

Why I Picked it Up / My Expectations:

I was in a little bit of a reading slump and I needed something to get me out of a reading funk. I kinda wanted something angsty but with a good plot and I realized I had this series sitting on my Kindle Unlimited library. I’ve enjoyed Elle Kennedy’s books in the past and I figured this would be a solid read.

The Concept / The World:

One things I love about academy based books is that you have an eclectic cast of characters to get to know. There is always something going on and it wasn’t long before I found myself invested in this band of misfit boys.

The Plot:

This started a little slow for me as everything gets setup and introduced. But once that foundation is there and things start to move, I became obsessed with finding out what happens next.

One unique aspect of this series is the overarching sub-plotline of finding out what happened the night of junior prom. I loved the mystery and watching the characters putting the pieces together.

The Characters:

I love books with multiple POVs. I can always find one or two plotlines that draw me in more than others and it keeps me interested. I enjoy getting that 360 degree view of the events happening as it amplifies everything in a way that just kept me turning the pages to find out what’s next.

I felt like we had solid character growth throughout as well. I liked watching these characters bond and navigate their new relationships.

The Romance:

I thought that I was mostly going to be reading a book where the romance was the main aspect of the plot. But it really is just another aspect of the various other things happening in this series. I enjoyed all the romances: lots of tension and chemistry!

My Expectations for the Rest of the Series:

I actually thought this series was complete when I picked it up (that’s part of the reason I picked it up!) but I’m looking forward to the next installment to see what happens next!

Series Rating: 4/5

Misfit 5/5 | Rogue 4/5 | Outcast TBP

overall

Perhaps one of the best academy based contemporary romance series I’ve read. It’s well rounded when it comes to the drama, characters and romance!

Read if You Like: multiple POVs, academy setting
Avoid if You: dislike multiple POVs, more romance focused
