Single Sundays: Hot Cop by Laurelin Paige

Single Sundays: While this blog may be focused on reviewing book series as a whole, we can’t forget about the good ole’ standalone novel! On Sundays, I will review a novel that is considered to be a standalone novel. Here is this week’s offering:
Single Sundays: Hot Cop by Laurelin Paige

Synopsis for Hot Cop (from Goodreads):

You have the right to remain sexy.
Anything you say can and will be used to get you in my bed.
You have the right to use my body to give yourself a delirious, life-changing orgasm.
If you have trouble… don’t worry, I’m a bit of an expert in that department.
There’s nothing ‘thin’ about my blue line, if you catch my drift, and trust me, I know how to put those handcuffs to good use.

***

Livia Ward wants a baby before she’s thirty.  And even though Officer Chase Kelly is exactly the kind of cocky jerk this librarian has sworn off, he is undeniably hot.  Both of them think they can give each other what they want—a few nights of fun for Officer Kelly, a no-strings baby for Livia—but this hot cop is about to learn that sex, babies, and love don’t always play by the rules.

thoughts

Why I Picked it Up / My Expectations:

When I’m in a reading slump, Laurelin Paige is one of the authors I turn to in order to get me out of it. I’d had Hot Cop on my TBR for a long time and when I needed a solid contemporary romance to get me back into a good reading place.

The Plot:

You have to go into the book with a bit of an open mind when it comes to the premise or else you won’t get past it. But I promise there is more to this story than just an excuse for sexy times! It’s really about two people deciding what they want in life and breaking away from their comfort zones when it comes to having a steady, serious relationship with another person.

The Characters:

I struggled a bit with Livia’s character. She felt a little underdeveloped for me with her respect to not wanting a commitment. Either I missed her reasoning for the “man-hating” or it was never explicitly stated. I will also admit that I boxed her in as a librarian so it took me a bit to realize what I thought was “out of character” we me making assumptions about what I thought her character should be (shy and timid).

In contrast, I thought Chase’s character had more dimension but I think it helped that the setting was his home town so he had more character connections.

The Romance:

These two had FABULOUS chemistry from the start – which was what I was craving. They have this great, instant connection that I loved seeing grow into something tangible.

My Rating: 3.5/5

overall

If you’re looking for a contemporary romance with a unique premise and great character chemistry, this is worth the shot.

Read if You Like: unique romance premises
Avoid if You: want a more traditional romance plot
